Ruta Tecolote 2

Tecolote Canyon lies just outside the village of Tularosa, New Mexico. We’re well acquainted with its canyons and riverbeds, and it calls us back! If you joined us last time, then you are also well versed with the Coyote Canyon. However, this time we turn our attention to a new trail which is has its share of obstacles lying in wait. This trail is also fed by a spring and is subject to flash floods that race down the Sacramento Mountains. Expect soft dirt, mud, water, boulders, and suffocating canyon walls. October couldn’t be a better month, cool temperatures, and faster nightfall awaits. Grab your gear, folks. Tecolote Canyon calls us back…

We were overwhelmed with your messages!

Our members have spoken. It’s time to outdo our last event and tackle on Tecolote Canyon! Let’s shoot for 50 participants!

Tularosa, New Mexico flanks the western edge of the Sacramento Mountains and is a popular off-road destination. Join us in exploring the area north of Tecolote Canyon. The trail will start at Coyote Canyon Rd just off the US-54 and head northeast to Helms Trail. This trail is moderate rated and includes rock obstacles and creeks that may have up to 12” of water.

The area has been saturated with torrential rains over the past few days. Expect mud, some standing water, and loose debris. Some areas will require spotters in order to safely navigate obstacles.
