Red River Recap:
We closed off summer with a weekend trip to the beautiful ski town of Red River, New Mexico. Nestled deep in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Red River was everything we expected it to be! The road trip took us North along the Old Spanish Trail past Santa Fe, the Rio Grande Gorge, and Taos. Along the way we discovered why this stretch of area is known as the Enchanted Circle. We settled into a spacious wooden cabin that provided breath taking autumn views of the Aspen Valley.
Day two started off with some eggs, pancakes, and bacon! We took the scenic Pioneer Creek Trail that follows the old prospector road. Along the way, we crossed the creek multiple times and ventured past old gold mines that dot the mountain. We baptized ourselves in the traditional crossing of the Red River at the start of Goose Lake Trail and made some new friends, we affectionately named “Red” after their two-door Rubicon. At midday, we strolled into town and had a great lunch at the Red River Brewery.
A brave few decided the trip wouldn’t be worth it without a trip up to Greenie Peak, the highest point in all of New Mexico (and Texas). The trail is not for the faint of heart, the trail is extremely rocky as it snakes its way up to the 13, 167ft summit. The crew managed to reach the top after about two hours and celebrated by taking some amazing photos. We wrapped up the cool evening with some games and enjoyed some smores under a canopy of stars. Yes! you could see the entire milky way!
The trip was just what we needed to reset; in fact, it exceeded our expectations! If you missed out on this once in a lifetime adventure, don’t worry! We have more trips planned in our “Getaway Series”. Keep an eye out on our social media and our events page for upcoming trips! No one does trails like Twin City Off Road!
